What Games will I be able to play during the Beta?

GDI has received permission to use 70+ PC games from most of the top games publishers partners for the Beta test.We will be releasing access to these over the course of the beta trial, they will not all be available at once and youwill be contacted and told which ones you have been given access to.

Why are we being asked to play them?

All of the games have been ‘converted’ in readiness for the beta launch. Now the technology needs to “learn” how games are played. The more it learns, the faster it can download them. The games supplied are intended to test the platform in different ways - for this we needed a variety of games based on genre (representations from shooter, action, racing, strategy, etc) and mode of game play (single player, multiplayer). So each game tests different features.

What technical specification do I need on my PC in order to be a beta tester?

We need a wide range of gamers with different specifications on their machines but the minimum specification we need is an open broadband connection. We will supply you with the minimum specification requirements of each game as we release them and post the information on the forum. If your PC does not meet the minimums, don’t worry, there will be others that do.

Will there be more games available during the beta?

Not all games will be available from the start and not all games will be available to all testers. We will email you to tell you whennew games are available, as well as post information to the forum. We will continue to invite further games from publishers for the beta program after the start.

What are the other benefits of becoming a beta tester?

Aside from the sheer kudos of being first to the new service and a chance to become an “island elder”, the select few will be given special introductory offers to AWOMO™ for the start of the service. In addition there will be custom virtual items that will identify you as one of the first entrants to AWOMO™ and the chance to create the best user names. Lastly for the hardest of hard core gamers, a select few will be invited to become a full time tester and become the first to test and play new releases before the official launch of the game.

What is the technology testing?

It will look to test the following aspects:

-Platform performance over a number of weeks

-How the platform responds at different times of the day

-General traffic performance/user experience

-User behaviour; hours spent in 3D world, and in games once downloaded

-The AWOMO desktop client: Containing a directory of all the games and functionality around the downloading

-The 3D Virtual World: Containing the ‘virtual world’ with five different districts to explore containing different games, lobby functionality, chat functions

-Server concurrency: Comprising admin, 3D engine, download and content servers

-Server load: Comprising calibration of network, optimising server capacities

How long will the Beta Test last?

It is intended that the beta testing should cover a three-month period. It may continue for longer should the need arise.

When will the Beta Test start?

The Beta Test has already started. Please be patient as we will not need all registrants from the start of the test.

How will the testing begin?

To properly convert the games to the beta, a select group of testers will be required to ‘train’ the platform, games and technology. This will entail all the games being played through rigorously by a team of ‘trainers’ - who will be invited to register over the next couple of weeks. A group of 500 will be selected and supplied with the necessary tools to begin game training. This work is in advance of the beta launch itself. Data gleaned from the training will form a key part of how games are selected and delivered to the test players during the beta test.

Do we have to sign a license agreement?

If you have successfully registered for the Beta Test then you will have already signed a license agreement with GDI. This restricts usage and protects confidentiality. Usage will be monitored constantly by GDI and prosecution against individuals breaking their license agreement will not be ruled out.

Do I need to download any software to take part in the beta?

Yes. The beta is also intended as a live user test – meaning that users will be invited to sign up and download the necessary software in order to access the platform. It is a short download that will sit on your desktop and will show the games available to you.

How many people will be involved in the Beta?

The eventual target, in order to best stress test the platform’s responsiveness, is in the region of 30,000 players. But you are unlikely to be able to interact with this many at any one time. Instead, this number will be grown gradually in order to calibrate the network whilst users are added. Links to download the AWOMO™ desktop beta client software will also be supplied on the launch date. Only those who have registered for the Beta will have access to these.

Do we feedback what we see and play?

Given the beta is a large-scale testing of the platform under conditions as close as possible to its public form, users will be able to send messages and feedback via forums and e-mail. This is essential to gather both bugs and data on the general user experience. So please feedback as much as possible.

What happens after I sign up on the registration site?

We will contact you when we are ready to invite you into the beta test. Please be patient as we will not need all registrants from the start of the test. We will be issuing you further updates on a regular basis.

Who can I contact if I have questions?

We would prefer if you waited for us to contact you. Our team monitor the forums all the time, so if you leave a message there, we will either answer it direct or update the FAQ’s.

How much will AWOMO™ cost me when it launches?

Access to AWOMO™ will be free, but you will need to pay for any games that you decide you want to play. There will be a number of different ways to pay, including Buy and Download, unlimited access for one price and pay as you play. We have not announced the pricing of these services yet so keep watching to find out.
