Frequently Asked Questions from Publishers and Developers

Does AWOMO require any additional Developer programming?

No. Preparation of titles for distribution on AWOMO does not require a separate digital sku and you do not have to modify the source code. All that is required is the unprotected gold master for a game. We then wrap, convert, test and optimise the game using our technology before making the game available on AWOMO. GDI can handle all the preparation of the game but you can bring your QA team into the process at any point and be involved as much as you like.

What is “optimising”?

It’s a bit like a “QA Process”. The game is played by a bank of game testers working for GDI. Using a special application on their PCs the way the game uses data is examined and results passed back to us. The servers are then configured to deliver the smallest possible initial download for each particular broadband connection.

How long does optimising take?

It very much depends on the game itself. It could be a few hours, or up to a week in some cases. The more play-testing that takes place, the cleverer the server becomes and the faster the download it delivers. This remains true after the game goes ‘live’ on the service – it continues to optimise itself after launch on AWOMO to deliver the game as efficiently as possible.

What DRM and anti-piracy system is used in AWOMO?

The AWOMO DRM and anti-piracy system is based around a proprietary on-line verification solution. The game’s code and data are secured by an advanced windows software protection system which ensures the maximum level of encryption and protection against any form of piracy and reverse engineering.
For each game downloaded, the AWOMO license server issues a unique software license. The license status is verified regularly during game play to prevent multiple logins with the same account or any form of time manipulation. Several types of licenses are supported, allowing different business models such as buy and download, rental and subscription.

Will Partners have access to AWOMO to manage their own products?

Partners have access to a Content Management System to manage the technical specifications and marketing information of their games in AWOMO. Publishers will also be able to manage their promotional areas in AWOMO, by uploading assets, promotions and banners in pre-allocated spaces. Eventually, this will give Partners the ability to sell other products other than games. Publishers will also have the facility to manage the price levels of their products offered via AWOMO in the same way they migrate through pricing tiers via their traditional distribution channels.

Does AWOMO support Multiplayer / Lobbies / Match Making?

The system supports any match making or lobby system that has been written into the code of the game; the game works on our system the same as if it was bought as a box copy. There will also be Leagues, Ladders & Tournaments via AWOMO, so that people can meet through AWOMO and play together.

What is AWOMO’s server capacity?

AWOMO has been built with the future in mind, so that millions of concurrent users can be handled at once by our server farms deployed worldwide, with no interruptions to the service or game play. We are confident that we can cope with any traffic that is thrown at us, especially at peak times when a game goes on sale for the first time.

Does AWOMO have auto-patching?

Yes, but our definition may be different from yours, so listen up. Patching will be done by us, without the end user having the need to ever download a patch; the version they play is always the most up to date version including the latest patch. Behind the scenes, this means that you give us the patch when it is available and we integrate it into the image on our servers.
